Iran refused to accept Sweden’s new ambassador over the desecration of the Holy Quran.
According to international media reports, Iran announced that it will not allow Sweden’s new ambassador to enter the country.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian told state television that “Sweden’s ambassador to Tehran has expired and we will not accept a new Swedish ambassador until the Swedish government takes serious action against the desecration of the Holy Quran, as per the president’s order.”
He added that the Iranian ambassador will not be sent to Sweden.
His announcement came after evening protests in the capital Tehran, in which hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Swedish embassy.
The protest turned into a sit-in, with the crowd throwing eggs and tomatoes at the building and vowing to stay there until Sweden’s ambassador was expelled from Iran.
Turkey demanded an immediate stop to hateful incidents from Sweden. The United Arab Emirates summoned the Swedish ambassador and recorded the protest, while the Al-Azhar University of Egypt called for a boycott of Swedish products, demanding action from Muslim countries on the repeated desecration of the Holy Quran.
