The government of Iraq has assured the security of foreign diplomatic missions stationed in the country.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that incidents like the attack on the Swedish embassy would not be allowed again.
The statement came as hundreds of protesters stormed and set fire to the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, where Iraq also expelled Sweden’s ambassador.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the Iraqi government assures all diplomatic missions of their safety and security in the context of the Vienna Convention.
The statement added that what happened at the Swedish embassy in Baghdad cannot be repeated and if any such incident happens again, those responsible will be brought to justice.
