Guwahati: Two tribal women belonging to Manipur’s Kangpokpi town were murdered after being gang-raped.
According to international media reports, the women were working in a car wash where the rape incident took place. The women were later dragged out of their workplace where they were killed by the mob after which the police shifted their bodies to the hospital.
The details of the crime, which took place amid the ongoing riots in Manipur, would have been buried under a mountain of thousands of FIRs if a friend of the slain women had not informed their families about the incident.
The friend, who witnessed the incident, visited the hospital the next day where she was told that both the women had succumbed to their injuries. The friend shared this information with a cousin of the victim who was hiding in a church to avoid the mob.
A colleague who worked in the office with the victims described the shocking incident, saying that a large group of men along with some women arrived at the car wash around 5:30 pm. These two tribal women were working as maids in a car wash. The women in the crowd incited the men to commit this heinous crime.
