Australia’s National War Memorial has decided to remove Chinese-made cameras installed on its premises.
Officials have expressed fear that these cameras can be used for espionage.
The 11 surveillance cameras manufactured by Hikvision, a company partly owned by Chinese state investors, are installed at the National War Memorial in the capital Canberra and will be removed by the middle of this year.
There are 189 other cameras in the memorial that are manufactured by other companies.
Opposition Senator James Peterson has said that he is conducting an audit of all government departments and agencies to fully review Chinese-made surveillance devices.
It should be remembered that the British government has also banned Chinese-made cameras and other electronic devices installed in sensitive buildings due to the threat of espionage.
