Israel recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara region.
The Royal Cabinet of Morocco has said in its statement that King Mohammed VI received a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in which he informed about Israel’s decision.
The letter stated that Morocco’s territorial sovereignty will be taken into account in all documents and actions of the Israeli government regarding Western Sahara.
Prime Minister Netanyahu told the King of Morocco that Israel’s decision will be communicated to the United Nations, regional and international organizations, as well as all countries with which Israel has diplomatic relations.
The letter stated that in the context of this decision, Israel is positively evaluating the opening of a consulate in the Moroccan city of Interior.
The United States recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara in December 2020.
It should be noted that while visiting Morocco last month, the Speaker of the Israeli Parliament, Amir Ohana, urged Israel to accept Moroccan supremacy in the region, emphasizing that historically this area belongs to Morocco.
