Peshawar: It has been 6 months since the caretaker government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which took over the business government for three months, took over the power, which has remained a victim of controversies even after its 90-day constitutional term.

According to Express News, former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan had sent a summary to the Governor on January 17, 2023 to dissolve the Provincial Assembly, which was signed by Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on January 18 and the Assembly was dissolved.

The senior bureaucrat of the province, Azam Khan, took oath as caretaker chief minister on January 21, according to which the provincial assembly elections were to be held in the month of April, but the said elections were still held due to the law and order situation in the province and other reasons. could not

It has been 177 days since the caretaker government was established in the province, while it has been six months since the dissolution of the assembly. In the case of the caretaker government of the province, it will hold power for another three and a half months until the formation of the elected government.

If the general elections are held in November, this period will be extended for another four and a half months, with which the caretaker government of the province will remain in power for nine and a half to ten and a half months.

The caretaker government has a constitutional term of 90 days, within which it has to hold elections, but due to non-election, Azam Khan’s caretaker government got an opportunity to play a long innings.

In this regard, the sources of the provincial government, when contacted, clarified that the task of the caretaker government is to hand over the power to the elected public representatives after holding the elections. The caretaker government will fully cooperate with the Commission whenever it conducts elections.

An official of the caretaker government says that if the caretaker government leaves power after 90 days, won’t the province suffer a huge crisis? We have saved the province from crisis, now the elections are held in October or November, whenever the elections are held we will hand over the power to the elected representatives and leave.

It should be noted that the case was under hearing in the higher courts in this regard and the leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaaf approached the courts separately in this regard, while the restoration of provincial assemblies was also considered in the ranks of PTI. Courts were to be approached for this, but it could not be implemented.
