Ecuador: Financial assistance to disadvantaged families in the poorest countries has saved the lives of approximately 739,919 children over two decades. Thus, an important aspect of financial assistance to poor countries has come to the fore, in which extraordinary benefits have come to light.
Brazil, Mexico and Ecuador introduced conditional financial assistance programs called CCTs (Conditional Cash Transfers) more than two decades ago. It specifically provided financial support to families for children’s health and education. Now the Barcelona Institute for Global Health has evaluated the positive effects of this long-term program and its details have been published in the American Journal of Medical Association.
About 4882 towns, villages and cities have been studied in this context. It is known that the money given to poor families from 2000 to 2019 benefited children under five years of age and they became healthy. Thus there was a total of 24% less deaths which equates to saving millions of precious lives. These included malnutrition, cholera, tuberculosis, respiratory infections, malaria and other diseases, which were greatly helped in timely treatment.
Experts have said that if such schemes are started in poor countries, especially related to health, it can have positive effects.
