Increase in prices of other vegetables including tomatoes in Karachi

Karachi: In the city, the prices of other vegetables, including tomatoes, have gone up due to which even the cheapest vegetables have gone out of the purchasing power of the people.

Lack of price control and non-implementation of government rates has made it more difficult for citizens to cope with inflation.

In the general markets of Karachi, tomatoes are being sold up to Rs 200 per kg, while zucchini, gourds are being sold at Rs 130 per kg, cabbage at Rs 240 per kg, okra at Rs 250 to Rs 280 per kg and tende at Rs 160 per kg. Spinach is being sold at Rs 100 per kg, onion at Rs 60 per kg and potato at Rs 80-90 per kg.

Citizens say that the city administration has left the consumers at the mercy of wholesalers, there is no system to implement official rates in general markets, while vegetables are being sold at high prices in thrift markets.
