Singapore’s transport minister arrested on corruption charges

According to foreign media, Singapore’s Transport Minister S. Iswaran was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Department on charges of corruption. A Singapore billionaire business tycoon is also being investigated in connection with this case.

Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) confirmed the transport minister’s arrest in a statement, saying he was arrested on July 11, 2023 and later released on bail.

Hotel tycoon Ong Beng Seng, one of Singapore’s richest men, was also arrested the same day and released on bail after preliminary investigations, the bureau added.

The bureau did not provide further details of the corruption case or investigation. Singapore is one of the world’s leading financial centers and is one of the least corrupt countries in the world.
