Rawalpindi: The protest and lockout of the employees yielded a positive result. The Punjab government accepted the 2 demands of the protesters.
The Punjab government accepted the protesting employees’ demand of 35 percent increase in salaries and 17 percent increase in pension, but the demand for leave encashment could not be accepted. After which the employees sitting on the protest postponed the protest due to Muharram.
Lockdown in municipal corporation offices of WASA, RDA, PHA in Rawalpindi has been lifted after settling matters with the provincial government. In this regard, the union leader says that they will raise the demand for levy encashment after Muharram.
Later, Municipal Union President Raja Haroon, Vasa Union General Secretary Raja Iftikhar announced to postpone the protest.
On the other hand, League leader Malik Ahmad Khan held talks with the protestors in Lahore, after which an agreement was reached between government employees and the government, according to which there will be a 35 percent increase on the running basic of grades 1 to 16. Grades 17 to 22 will have a 30 percent increase on running basic.
The agreement stipulated that the levy encashment amount would be paid on a running basis. The pension will be increased by 17.5 percent on the federal pattern. After the decision of the leaders, the employees ended the sit-in, but the leaders of the sit-in will stay in Lahore until the notification is issued. In this regard, it has been said that if the notification is not issued next week, the sit-in will be held again after Muharram.
