Jakarta: Indonesian President Joko Widodo has warned that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations “ASEAN” cannot become a proxy for any country.
According to the World News Agency, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that the organization cannot become a proxy for any country in his address to the meeting of foreign ministers of the ASEAN member countries on the recent tension between the US and China in the Asia Pacific. International law must be consistently respected.
China and America also participated in the meeting. The meeting is being held to find a possible solution to the South China Sea, Myanmar and Taiwan dispute.
Disputes over the South China Sea have pitted some member states of the Organization of Southeast Asian Nations against China. This has increased sympathy for the US opposition, while one group blames the US for supporting China.
On which Indonesian President Joko Widodo made it clear that ASEAN cannot become a proxy of any country without naming America and China. We are committed to strengthening unity and solidarity as well as centrality in ASEAN to safeguard peace and stability in the region.
It should be remembered that China claims its ownership of the South China Sea, while Taiwan calls it its territory, which is a tension between the two, and America’s sympathies are with Taiwan, which was also protested by China.
