Islamabad: In the 2-day conference on population and resources at the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice delivered his address with the verses of the Holy Quran. He said that the Supreme Court is responsible for the protection of fundamental rights. Being a judge is not just about seeing right or wrong. It is to be seen which rights of the people should be protected.
The Chief Justice said that how the Muslim countries of Iran and Bangladesh achieved the goal of population control. Today the narrative is not population control but population benefit. We have to unite the whole society on this issue.
He said that Islam talks about a better family. Is the family supporting the education training? Education is indispensable for population control. Society will be better with better vocational education. The Supreme Court legal forum is not for that. We can only talk about fundamental rights. The people of Pakistan have to come forward and tell the state the solution to the problems.
In his address, the Chief Justice said that Islam strengthens family ties. It is the responsibility of the state to take care of the child and the mother. The happiness of the individual lies in the happiness of the family. A comprehensive strategy is needed to control rampant population growth.
The Chief Justice said that when Pakistan was formed in 1947, it did not have any wealth. Common people gave money to Pakistan. At that time the people of Pakistan realized their responsibility. There was a time when Pakistan gave loans to China.
Justice Umar Atta Bandial said that we have to adopt simplicity while taking the first step. We need to provide education and vocational training. These are the simple steps to follow. We will give suggestions in the 2-day conference. Here the litigation comes to the Supreme Court. We need to create opportunities. Judges should be aware of new needs and ideas about society.
