Chinese Ambassador to the US Shai Feng held an extraordinary meeting with the top official of the Asia Desk at the Pentagon, which lasted 90 minutes.
A statement released by the Pentagon said that the Chinese ambassador discussed defense relations, international and regional security issues with US Assistant Secretary of Defense Eli Ratner.
Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Martin Manners said the U.S. official reiterated the Defense Department’s commitment to maintaining military ties with China.
According to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy, Ambassador Shai Feng urged the US to do even half of China’s efforts to normalize relations between the two countries and forces, so things would be fine.
The Chinese ambassador said that a stable relationship between the US and China is in the common interest of both countries.
He said that the United States should remove obstacles, end differences and take a careful attitude on other sensitive issues including Taiwan.
It should be noted that US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited China at the beginning of this month and US Special Representative for the Environment John Kerry is expected to visit China next week.
Last month, US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken also visited China, the first visit by any US Secretary of State since 2018.
