Islamabad: The Election Commission’s notification regarding the suspension of local bodies was challenged in the Islamabad High Court.
In the petition filed in the Islamabad High Court, it has been argued that the Election Commission has suspended the Local Government and Cantonment Boards in view of the provincial assembly elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the Election Commission has not yet issued the election schedule or The process of compiling new voter lists has started.
It has been stated in the petition that the suspension of Cantonment Board and Local Government in both the provinces is affecting the work and rights of the citizens. The court declared the Election Commission’s notification of the suspension of the Cantonment Boards null and void.
Chief Election Commissioner and DG Law of Election Commission have been made parties in the application, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq will hear the application on Thursday.
