The presence of more than 600 illegal housing societies in the capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been revealed.
In the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change, Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Noor Alamin Mengal made a big revelation about illegal societies.
Chairman CDA told the Standing Committee that there are more than 600 illegal housing societies in the twin cities (Islamabad and Rawalpindi).
He further said that there are 150 illegal housing societies in Islamabad, 318 in Rawalpindi, while there are around 100 illegal housing societies in Fateh Jang.
The Chairperson Committee inquired what CDA is doing against illegal societies.
He further said that CDA should release the list of illegal societies and public should be informed about illegal societies through advertisement.
The members of the committee said that illegal housing societies are continuing their activities, causing irreparable damage to the environment.
Environmental Protection Agency (APA) Pakistan Director General (DG) Farzana Altaf has said that environmental reports have been requested from the housing societies.
He further said that the NOC of the legal societies that do not meet the environmental standards will be canceled within a week.
