Vilnius: NATO heads of state have gathered in Lithuania, a country bordering Russia, for an important meeting in which Ukraine and Sweden are likely to consider joining NATO.

According to the World News Agency, in view of the possibility of any significant progress in the bid of Ukraine’s membership and Sweden’s participation in the summit of the military alliance of Western countries “NATO” in order to face any kind of Russian aggression. Germany’s Patriot missile system and France’s fighter jets are circling the skies over the meeting site.

It should be remembered that Lithuania was once occupied by Russia and has a border with Russia, which has declared war on Ukraine over its request to join NATO and will go to any lengths if the accession is approved.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will travel to Lithuania for a two-day summit to demonstrate that Russia has earned the right to join NATO once the invasion ends.

Although the Western military alliance NATO is ready to fully support a victory for Ukraine, its 31 member states are divided on how far Ukraine should go to join NATO.

In this regard, US President Joe Biden will meet his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday. The US president has made it clear that there is no deal to offer Ukraine membership during a war with Russia because it would drag NATO directly into war.

On the other hand, Russia targeted the Ukrainian port city of Odessa in another drone attack overnight. Ukraine is optimistic that the Western countries will keep their promises and pave the way for joining NATO.
