Vilnius: NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg announced that Turkey has agreed to Sweden joining NATO.
According to international media reports, a surprising development was revealed at the recently held NATO summit in Lithuania in which Turkey supported Sweden’s joining NATO.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Sweden can join NATO only if Turkey is included in the European Union. For more than a year, Erdogan has been expressing concerns about Sweden joining NATO and demanding EU membership.
Speaking at a news conference after a meeting with the Turkish President and Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Kristerson in Lithuania, Stoltenberg said that the Turkish President has also agreed to send Sweden’s accession to NATO to the Grand National Assembly as soon as possible.
