Germany will send its troops to Australia for the first time, taking part in joint exercises with 30,000 military personnel from 12 other countries.
According to foreign news agencies, Germany has increased its military presence in the Indo-Pacific in recent years.
Germany’s Army Chief Alfons Mies said that due to economic interdependence, this region is of great importance for Germany and the European Union as well.
He said that 240 German military personnel will take part in the Talisman Saber exercise, which will run from July 22 to August 4.
The army chief said that we want to convey that we are reliable and capable partners and can uphold the rule of law in the region.
The German army chief will meet troops in Australia in mid-July, he will also visit an armored vehicle manufacturing plant.
This exercise, which is held on a biannual basis, is the largest exercise in the US and Australia.
German troops will train in jungle combat and landing operations, accompanied by personnel from Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, France and Britain.
Remember that in 2021, a German warship sailed into the South China Sea for the first time in 20 years.
Last year, Berlin sent 13 fighter jets to Australia for joint exercises, the largest peacetime air deployment by the German Air Force.
