In Iran, singer Tomaj Salehi was sentenced to 6 years in prison for supporting anti-government protesters.
The 33-year-old singer-musician faced several other charges but was convicted of ‘militant’, a charge that usually carries the death penalty.
Tomaj was also accused of insulting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei among other charges.
Tomaj’s fans had expressed on several occasions that he could be hanged.
His lawyer Roza Etemad Ansari told foreign media that the singer has been ordered to stay away from music for two years after completing his prison sentence and he will not be able to leave the country during this period.
It should be noted that in the anti-government protests against the death of Mahsa Amini, Tomaj Salehi also gave anti-government statements while expressing solidarity with the protesters.
He was arrested in October last year, authorities said, while on his way abroad.
