New Delhi: New varieties of rice are being developed all over the world. Now, Indian experts have grown a type of rice that can help prevent type 2 diabetes and heart disease due to its special ingredients.

A new variety of slightly aromatic rice, ‘Juha’, has been cultivated in the north-east of India, which is also rich in unsaturated fatty acids. Thus, this rice can help prevent heart diseases and diabetes.

Raja Lakshmi Devi, a scientist associated with the Guwahati-based Institute of Advanced Studies, said that rice is a staple food in the region that has developed medicinal properties.

Juha is a small grain winter rice with a very good taste and aroma. Although this rice has been cultivated before, the scientists of the institute conducted research on it. However, some people insisted that this rice can be useful in these diseases.

Research has shown that joha rice contains some amount of two different fatty acids, namely linoleic acid (omega-6) and linolenic (omega-3) acid. The human body cannot make the most useful ingredients for the body and thus rice can make up for this deficiency. Further experiments showed that eating rice can lower blood sugar.

In the next step, Parjuha was tested on mice and it revealed more antioxidants. Then it was found that this rice can become a medical drug because it also has the ability to lower cholesterol. However, more medicinal ingredients have also been added to this rice.
