New Delhi: An Indian court rejected opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s appeal against the disqualification sentence in the defamation case.
According to Indian media, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from holding any public office for making fun of Modi’s name. Rahul Gandhi was also sentenced to two years in prison but was released on bail.
He also lost his parliamentary seat after the disqualification. It should be noted that legislators sentenced to 2 years or more under this law are automatically disqualified.
Rahul Gandhi also has to lead his party’s election campaign. Hence, he filed an appeal against the disqualification sentence which was rejected in the local court today. Rahul Gandhi now has the option of High Court and Supreme Court.
It should be remembered that Rahul Gandhi in a speech during the 2019 general elections mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the absconding of 2 businessmen named Modi and said why all thieves are named Modi.
Another leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, whose name comes with Modi, filed a defamation case against him.
