Manipur: The US State Department has expressed regret over the Indian government not issuing visas to the delegation of the US Commission on Religious Freedom, which is coming to visit Manipur this week.
According to the American media, the delegation of the United States Religious Freedom Commission, which is coming to investigate the violent incidents of the Modi government against the minority community in the Indian state of Manipur, has been refused a visa by the Indian government.
One of the three delegates to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom who were denied visas by the Modi government is Pastor Thomas Reese, who told American television in an interview that we visit countries so that we can visit that country. I can know the real facts and circumstances of the religious freedom situation.
He said that we visit a country and talk to its religious leaders, citizens and then also meet the government leaders so that their comments on the situation are taken into consideration.
He further said that it is our responsibility to advise the President and the Ministry of External Affairs on the situation around the world regarding religious freedom and India is one of the places where we wanted to understand the situation in Manipur so that we can address this issue. I can form a very fair and accurate opinion but it is disappointing that the government there has refused to grant us visas.
