Geneva: An emergency meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council was convened at the request of Pakistan to discuss the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
The spokesperson of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Pascal Sim, said in a statement that at the request of Pakistan, the 47-member Human Rights Council will change its agenda to discuss the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden. The meeting is likely to be held this week, the date and time of which will be decided by the Council Bureau.
The Geneva-based Human Rights Council holds 3 sessions every year. The UN’s largest human rights body is currently in its second session, which will continue until July 14.
Pakistan’s ambassador in Geneva, Khalil Hashmi, wrote a letter to the President of the United Nations Humanitarian Council on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other countries requesting an urgent discussion.
