Menlopark: Readers may recall that a few weeks ago we reported on Barcelona, a Twitter-style app from Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The app is now going live on Thursdays as ‘Threads’.
Some of its screenshots show that the dashboard is very similar to Twitter, which will work with a link to Instagram. It has been adapted into a text and chat style app that is sort of a Twitter replacement. There are two main factors behind this.
First, Elon Musk’s decisions have dealt a huge blow to the popular Twitter app. Even before this, many big personalities have left it and gone to the alternative app. Another important reason is that the conflict between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has escalated to many levels.
But Twitter has now imposed a verified account requirement for Twitter Deck as well, which will have some ramifications. Thanks to this, Elon Musk wants to attract more and more people towards subscription.
In contrast, analysts believe that Meta’s ‘Threads’ app will be completely free, with no post and word limits.
It should be noted that several Twitter-style apps have emerged and become increasingly popular, among them Truth Social and Mastodon. Also, an app called BlueSky has grown rapidly, but Twitter is still the most popular.
