The federal cabinet approved several bills including the establishment of Landport Authority

Islamabad: In the Federal Cabinet meeting, the Higher Education Commission Amendment Bill, legislation for Pakistan Land Port Authority and Private Security Regulatory Bill were approved.

The Federal Cabinet meeting was held in Prime Minister House Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, in which the federal cabinet was briefed on the details of the $3 billion agreement with the IMF.

During the meeting, the Federal Cabinet approved in principle the Higher Education Commission Amendment Bill 2023 on the recommendation of the Ministry of Federal Education and Vocational Training. The approval of the amendment bill will not only bring innovation in the higher education system in Pakistan according to the modern requirements but also create transparency in the affairs of the commission.

On the recommendation of the Ministry of Federal Education and Vocational Training, the Cabinet approved in principle the Federal Urdu University for Arts, Science and Technology Amendment Bill 2023, after which research will be promoted along with modern reforms in the university.

On the recommendation of the Ministry of Federal Education and Vocational Training, the cabinet also approved in principle the amendment of the National Commission for Human Development Ordinance 2002. The draft of these three laws will be submitted to the CCLC.

During the meeting, the Federal Cabinet on the recommendation of the Ministry of Commerce allowed the transit of a container of World Food Program vehicle spare parts from Karachi to Kabul through Pakistan to continue the food supply operation in Afghanistan.

In the meeting, the federal cabinet was given a detailed briefing on the solid waste management project in Islamabad, the cabinet was informed that two types of plans have been created under this project.

Under the short-term policy, waste collection has been started from the areas of Islamabad, including suburban areas, while under the long-term policy, tenders have been issued to hire high-quality international companies.

The Prime Minister asked for the details of incinerators in Islamabad for disposal of waste from hospitals. The Prime Minister also directed that companies with experience in disposal of lethal and toxic waste from hospitals should be included in the Solid Waste Management Plan in Islamabad. Responsibility should be assigned separately.

The Federal Cabinet gave in-principle approval to send the Solid Waste Management Bill for Islamabad Capital Territory to the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases.

The Federal Cabinet also approved the referral of the Private Security Services Regulatory Bill, 2023 to the CCLC. Under this bill, the Private Security Services Regulatory Authority will be established to formally oversee the security system.

In the meeting, the federal cabinet also approved in principle the legislation to establish the Pakistan Land Port Authority, but directed that the draft of the legislation should be sent to the CCLC after consultation with the Ministry of Commerce.
