According to the American media, Maryam Khan of Pakistani origin is a member of the House of Representatives of the American state of Connecticut, the attacker has been detained on charges of breach of peace and order and assault.
Maryam Khan, 33, the first Muslim member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, Connecticut House Speaker Matt Ritter and Majority Leader Jason Rojas condemned the attack on Maryam Khan.
Speaker Matt Ritter says the state capitol police have assured they will work with Hartford police to investigate.
The governor of Connecticut says it is troubling that the incident happened on a holy day meant to pray, law enforcement officials will fully investigate the attack on Maryam Khan.
Farhan Memon, chairman of the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, condemned the attack on Maryam Khan and said that the police should ensure the safety of the Muslim community in Connecticut, where American Muslims are often targeted because of their dress or race.
