Hartford: Maryam Khan, the representative of the Legislative Assembly of the American state of Connecticut, was assaulted by a bigoted citizen after the Eid-ul-Azha prayer, in which the woman was injured.
The world media quoted the state authorities as saying that the Muslim woman was attacked when she came out of the Eidgah after praying the Eid al-Adha prayer. Seeing the attack, a fellow worshiper showed bravery and caught the assailant. Meanwhile, the rest of the people also gathered and held the assailant until the police arrived.
Assemblywoman Maryam Khan was with her sister and her children outside the XL Center, an arena in downtown Hartford, on Eid morning. About 4,000 people gathered at the center for Eid prayers.
Farhan Memon, head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Connecticut, told reporters that the assailant first made obscene comments at the woman, then grabbed her, hit her and threw her to the ground. The woman sustained minor injuries.
