417 Pakistanis in India and 308 Indian citizens in Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan on Saturday handed over a list of 308 Indian prisoners (42 civilians and 266 fishermen) in Pakistan to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad under the provisions of the 2008 Consular Access Agreement.

According to the spokesperson of the Foreign Office, the Indian government handed over the list of Pakistanis imprisoned in Indian jails to the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. According to the list, there are a total of 417 Pakistanis (343 civilians and 74 fishermen) in Indian jails.

According to the statement, Pakistan has urged the Indian government to release and repatriate all Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen who have completed their respective sentences and whose nationality has been confirmed.

It should be noted that Pakistan and India exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody on January 1 and July 1 every year under the Consular Access Agreement signed on May 21, 2008.
