Explosion and fire during Hindu religious ritual in India, 6 dead

New Delhi: 6 Hindus were burnt to death while many others were injured in an accident during the puja in Annakoti district of Tripura state of India.

According to Indian media reports, on Wednesday, June 28, at 4:30 in the evening, the Yatra of Lord Jagannath was going on in the Kumar Ghat area of ​​Annakoti district, during which the idol of Lord Jagannath collided with the high tension wire.

As soon as the idol hit the high-tension wire, there was a loud explosion, followed by a fire and a stampede.

According to the police, 6 pilgrims were burnt to death on the spot while more than 15 were injured whose condition is critical.

Thousands of people were pulling the iron statue when it hit a 133 kv overhead cable, police said.

Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chaudhary told Indian media that six people died on the spot and 15 others suffered burn injuries. He said that the injured are being treated in a nearby hospital.

Chief Minister Manik Saha has condoled with the bereaved while expressing grief over the deaths.
