The Akio Nuclear Power Plant under construction in the south of Mersin province of Turkey was not damaged during the earthquake.
According to international media reports, the Russian company that built this power plant in Turkey has denied the news of the power plant being destroyed during the earthquake.
Anastasia Zoteva, an officer of Russia’s state-run nuclear energy company Rosatom, says that an earthquake of magnitude 3 was felt here, but according to our experts, there was no damage to the building’s structure, cranes or equipment.
He said that even though there was no damage to the power plant, we are taking steps to ensure that the construction and installation work can continue safely even during this natural calamity.
It should be noted that the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria has caused destruction, more or less 5,600 buildings have been damaged in both countries, while the death toll has exceeded 4,300.
According to reports, more than 2 thousand 921 deaths and 14 thousand 483 people have been injured in Turkey so far, while the number of deaths in Syria has reached 1 thousand 420 and more than 21 hundred people have been injured.
The earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale with its epicenter 23 km south and a depth of 17.9 km. The earthquake in both countries is the worst disaster in 100 years and it is the biggest disaster in Turkey since 1939.
The Turkish authorities have also appealed for help from the international community to deal with the situation after this natural disaster in the country.
