If the ninth review is not completed, a new short-term standby agreement can be made with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to sources, Pakistan can take 2.5 billion dollars of its quota from the IMF.
The IMF had given assurances about the ninth review and board meeting.
The Ministry of Finance has proposed to the IMF that if the board meeting cannot be held, the program should be extended by 6 months.
Sources say that Pakistan requested the IMF to increase the size of the standby agreement to 3.5 billion dollars.
Pakistan is expected to receive another one billion dollars from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the next few days, while another two billion dollars may be received from Saudi Arabia in July.
It should be noted that yesterday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed hope that there is a possibility of a decision on the agreement with the IMF in a couple of days.
Shahbaz Sharif, in a telephone conversation with MDIMF, reiterated his determination to achieve the goals of improving the economic situation through joint efforts.
Pakistan has taken decisive steps as per the IMF conditions, the IMF mission chief acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to rehabilitate the debt.
Nathan Porter had said that remarkable talks had taken place to address local and external imbalances, with the visit discussing measures to achieve sustainable revenue.
He said that negotiations are ongoing to reach an agreement and provide financial assistance soon after measures to tighten the policy rate to reduce inflation, increase funds for development and social sector in the budget.
