By 2050, the number of diabetes patients will exceed 130 crore

London: According to an international team of doctors and scientists, by 2050 the number of diabetes patients will almost triple from 530 million to over 130 million by 2050.

In a series of papers published in the British medical journal The Lancet, researchers warn that despite global awareness efforts, diabetes is spreading faster than other diseases worldwide.

According to the researchers, by 2050, one in five people in the heavily affected countries of the Middle East and Oceania (the region of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and a few more countries) may have diabetes. No country is expected to decrease the rate of this disease for the next three decades.

According to scientists, minorities in rich countries will be more affected by diabetes than their own population, while by 2045, three-quarters of the total number of diabetes patients will be from poor countries.

The world population is expected to reach 10 billion by the middle of this century. Most population growth is expected in low- and middle-income countries. According to the research paper, only one in 10 patients in these low-income countries will likely have access to treatment facilities.

Medical experts have long warned that the number of people with diabetes has increased in recent decades, largely due to a higher consumption of processed foods than in the past and an easier lifestyle.
