A Muslim female journalist who asked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a question about democracy during his visit to America was harassed.
While holding a joint press conference with President Joe Biden in America, Sabrina Siddiqui asked Narendra Modi a question about democracy in India.
According to foreign media, the American newspaper says that ever since its journalist asked a question to the Indian Prime Minister, he is being harassed online by India.
The American newspaper says that Sabrina Siddiqui was also targeted for being a Muslim.
In this regard, US senior official John Kirby has said that the White House is aware of the reports of harassment.
“This is completely unacceptable and we condemn harassment of journalists anywhere under any circumstances,” Kirby said.
He said it was against the principles of democracy which were on display during the state visit last week.
According to foreign media, after John Kirby’s statement, the White House press secretary said that we are committed to the freedom of the press and we condemn any attempt to intimidate or harass any journalist.
It should be noted that while holding a press conference with President Joe Biden in the United States last Thursday, the journalist asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi that many human rights groups talked about discrimination and silencing of critics in India, you and your government. What steps are India willing to take to improve the rights of Muslims and other minorities and maintain freedom of expression?
