Lahore: Heavy rain in the city in the morning broke the heat and the weather became pleasant, the low-lying areas were flooded while the highways stood water.
According to the Meteorological Department, the pre-monsoon rains will continue from today till June 30.
Lahore has set a record of pre-monsoon rains this year. The highest rainfall was recorded at Lakshmi Chowk 256 mm while Paniwala Pond 254, Cordoba Chowk 252, Gulshan Ravi 238, Samanabad 125, Iqbal Town 212, Airport 260, Nishtar Town 231 and Tajpura. 192 mm of rain was recorded.
120 mm of rain was recorded in Jail Road, 105 in Gulbarak, 135 in Johar Town, 62 in Farrukhabad and 90 mm in Chowk Nakhd.
Due to heavy rain, the citizens are facing serious difficulties in transportation due to water on the highways. Instructions have been given to other institutions including WASA for the drainage of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Rafia Haider. Local Government Minister Amir Mir has given instructions to speed up the drainage operation.
MD Vasa Ghafran Ahmed along with operational staff are present in the field for drainage. MD Wasa Ghafran Ahmed visited the low lying areas of Cordoba Chowk and Lakshmi Chowk. MD Vasa also visited underpasses across the city.
Heavy machinery, staff and officers are fully mobilized at all emergency campuses. The drainage operation of Wasa Lahore has been going on uninterruptedly since morning.
