Boston: Scientists have discovered a molecular chemical system that can stimulate hair cells to regrow them. It is hoped that a new therapy will emerge to eliminate male pattern baldness.
Experts have discovered a mechanism by which aging pigment-producing cells are enabled to regenerate hair. The research has been published in the journal Nature. It states that the very fine pits that produce hair are called nevi, where osteopontin and the CD44 molecule play an important role in hair growth.
The experts noted that pigment-making cells produce signaling molecules called osteopontin. On many occasions they wake up and start making stem cells. Thicker and stronger hair starts growing from these stem cells. These cells are generally considered to be useless and senescent and are found throughout the body’s tissues. But they can be reactivated by stem cells. And this process has been made possible by experts.
Experts tested this method on hairless rats. As soon as their stem cells were activated, the mice began to grow hair, and so on. But one time the cells are dormant and the other time they are active and the cycle continues.
Scientists have discovered this important connection between pigment cells and stem cells and hope that sooner or later humans will be able to benefit from it.
