Transport authorities of Saudi Arabia say that they have provided 1,000 electric scooters to facilitate the transportation of pilgrims during the annual Hajj season.
According to Arab media reports, the service, which was launched on a trial basis during the Hajj season last year, aims to provide multiple choices for transportation during the Hajj and facilitate the movement of pilgrims in less time.
Separate lanes have been designated for scooter users, vehicle travelers and pedestrians to ensure ease of travel and safety of pilgrims, the report said.
The report further states that the two-lane track for scooters is 2 km long.
According to Arab media reports, the Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA) has also allocated a team of experts to provide guidance to Hajj pilgrims on the correct procedure to benefit from the service.
With the use of electric bikes, pilgrims will be able to travel from Arafat to Muzdalifah in 15 minutes instead of 60 minutes.
It is expected that more than two million pilgrims will have the privilege of performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia this year.
