Former Senate Chairman and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani has said that according to law, no member can be arrested after convening a meeting of the National Assembly.
In a statement, Senator Raza Rabbani reacted to the arrest of the member of the National Assembly and said that the arrest of Ali Wazir is a violation of the Parliament Privileges Act 2023.
He said that according to the law, no member can be arrested after convening the meeting of the National Assembly, if he has been arrested in an FIR (First Information Report), then the Speaker has to be informed within 24 hours.
The PP senator added that a copy of the FIR should have been provided to the Speaker National Assembly, the arrest should have been reported to the Speaker under Section 5 of the Privileges Act.
He said that the reasons for registering the FIR should have been provided to the Speaker, under Section 7 of the Privileges Act, the Speaker should have issued production orders for Ali Wazir.
The former Senate Chairman also asked the Speaker to issue a production order so that Ali Wazir can attend the Budget 2023-24 meeting.
