The international community has assured additional aid of one and a half billion dollars for the conflict-ridden Sudan.
The member countries of Egypt, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the African Union participated in the meeting held with the support of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
On this occasion, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that less than 17% of the 3 billion dollars required under the UN Emergency Aid Program for Sudan has been received.
Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced 50 million dollars for Sudan.
German Foreign Minister Katja Köll pledged 200 million euros in humanitarian aid.
US Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power participated in the meeting via web link. He announced additional aid of 171 million dollars from Washington.
The top human rights official at the United Nations, Martin Griffiths, said that the UN will provide an additional 22 million dollars in the aid package for Sudan.
