Qatar has signed an agreement with the National Petroleum Corporation of China under which it will supply natural gas to China for 27 years.
Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Al Kaabi said that Qatar will supply 4 million tons of natural gas to China annually through its Northfield East Expansion Project.
The signing ceremony of the agreement was held in Doha, a similar agreement has been signed by Qatar with the Chinese company Sinopec.
The energy minister said that this is the second LNG sale agreement with China.
These two contracts are the longest ever in the LNG industry.
Qatar has increased its LNG production by 60% to 12.6 million tonnes per annum by 2027 by further expanding the Northfield gas extraction process.
The North Field is the world’s largest natural gas reservoir, which extends from the Gulf to Iranian territories.
Major buyers of Qatar’s gas are Asian countries, but after the Russian occupation of Ukraine last year, European countries are also buying gas from Qatar.
