The Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore made dozens of recruitments before retiring

Lahore: Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology Lahore Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar has recruited dozens of teachers and employees by conducting selection boards at lightning speed in the last month of his four-year tenure. Syndicate member Dr. Tahir Naeem raised an objection to the process and a professor filed a writ in the Lahore High Court.

According to the details, in the syndicate meeting held on Saturday, the representative of Higher Education Commission Dr. Athar Naeem raised legal points and raised objections on the Vice Chancellor’s holding of new selection boards in the last week.

The members of the Syndicate said during the meeting that as per the law after the Syndicate meeting, the written proceedings are sent to all the members and 7 days time is required to ratify the decisions of the Selection Board but without completing this process the Vice-Chancellor has called the Syndicate meeting again on June 22.
Sources have claimed that the Vice-Chancellor has recruited teachers and employees through selection boards on the basis of political recommendations, while the stipulated period of the Syndicate’s proceedings as per the University Act and law has not been followed.

The meeting of the UET Syndicate was held on June 3. In this meeting, the recommendations of 6 selection boards for the recruitment of teachers and employees were placed on the agenda. Three selection boards were held.

A meeting of the syndicate was called on June 17 to approve the recommendations of these selection boards, in which approval was taken for the recruitment of more teachers and employees.

Dr. Tahir Naeem said that it is illegal to hold a meeting again without fulfilling the legal requirements of validating the decisions of the syndicate. The HEC representative also expressed serious concerns over the expenditure estimates in the university budget and pointed out discrepancies in the figures.

On the direction of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar UET Muhammad Asif has released the schedule of the Selection Board on June 20, three days before the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor, and in this selection board, the new recruitments, including regularizing the ad-hoc and contract recruitments, have been announced. Recruitment is being done. Approval of the June 20 Selection Board recommendations will be sought from the Syndicate meeting on June 22.

It should be noted that the tenure of Vice Chancellor Syed Mansoor Sarwar will end on June 23 and he has decided to approve political appointments through the syndicate a day before the tenure ends.

Vice Chancellor Syed Mansoor Sarwar has approved the promotions and recruitment of 67 people going into June, the last month of his tenure.

The teaching and non-teaching staff who were recruited include Dr. Nasir Ali, Assistant Professor of Physics, Dr. Attalar Haman Makhdoom, Physics, Dr. Maria Idris, Architecture, Dr. Shahzad Zafar, Lecturer, Chemistry.

Apart from them, Abbas Deputy Director QEC, Zeenul Haque Assistant Manager Alumni, Saba Shakeel Horticulture, Ali Raza Horticulture, Ayesha Mehmood Medical Officer, Hasan Jahan Zeb Lecturer Petroleum, Faizan Hussain Assistant Engineer Civil, Nabeel Bek Assistant Engineer Electrical, Nauman. Aftab Lecturer Electrical, Waqas Javed Assistant Professor Electrical, Dr. Aamir Iqbal Bhatti Professor TTS are included.

Ramsha Chaudhry Lecturer Electrical, Dr. Owais Hassan Professor Computer Science, Tazeem Haider Lecturer Computer Science, Muhammad Faraz Lecturer Computer Science, Alia Farooq Computer Science, Muhammad Talha Mubasher Computer Science, Faiza Mehmood, Muhammad Mehdi Computer Science Lecturer, among those recruited and promoted. Dr. Khawaja Adeel Professor Civil Engineering is also involved.

The senior faculty of UET on the said selection boards are concerned that the university will have to bear the burden of salaries through political recruitments in the last weeks, UET is already suffering from financial crisis and to end this financial crisis. The fees of the students have been increased up to two times by the Vice Chancellor.

The senior teachers of UET have appealed to Governor Punjab to ask for the documents of the proceedings of the selection boards and syndicate meeting held in the month of June and to investigate the records as per legal requirements.
