All accused including Rao Anwar acquitted

Karachi: (PNP News) The anti-terrorism court acquitted all the accused, including Rao Anwar, in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

In its verdict, the Anti-Terrorism Commission said that the prosecution has failed to prove the charges against the accused.

The court acquitted all including Rao Anwaz, DSP Qamar Ahmed, Amanullah Marwat and others were acquitted.

Background of the case

On 13 January 2018, then SSP Malir Rao Anwar claimed that 3 terrorists were killed in a police encounter.

One person who died was identified as Naqeebullah, when the stories about Naqeebullah went viral on social media, the media also raised their voice on it, Pashtun protection movement also came into the limelight after the same incident.

Later, the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (R) Saqib Nisar took notice of this matter.

Naqeebullah Mehsud’s father Muhammad Khan Mehsud also filed an FIR stating that on January 3, 2018, plainclothes officers picked up his son Naqeebullah and two others, Hazrat Ali and Qasim, on January 6, 2018. Hazrat Ali and Qasim were released but Naqibullah was kept in prison.

Muhammad Khan Mehsud (now deposed) stated that on January 17, he learned from TV and newspapers that his son had been killed in a fake police encounter.

The court indicted Rao Anwar and other accused on March 25, 2019 and 60 witnesses appeared against the accused.

The then Army Chief General (Rtd) Qamar Javed Bajwa himself met Naqeebullah Mehsud’s father Muhammad Khan Mehsud and assured him of justice but he could not get justice, only hoping to punish his son’s killers. I passed away.

During the last 5 years, not only Muhammad Khan Mehsud died, but the officials who gave statements against Rao Anwar also retracted their statements.
