A Sikh leader of the Khalistan movement in Canada was shot dead outside a gurdwara.
According to media reports, Hardeep Singh Nagar was the president of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey city. He was also the chief of the Khalistan Tiger Force.
According to the police, he was killed by two unknown persons in the Gurdwara premises. His body was recovered from the vehicle.
46-year-old Hardeep belongs to Jalandhar, a city in Indian Punjab. He was instrumental in organizing the Khalistan Referendum in the city of Brampton.
India’s National Investigation Agency had also prepared a charge sheet against him for plotting terrorist attacks.
India had asked Canada to take action against Hardeep Singh for his alleged involvement in terrorist activities in Punjab.
He was declared the most wanted terrorist by New Delhi and a reward of more than 12 thousand dollars was set for his arrest.
Hardeep Singh’s lawyer Gurptot Singh says that the Canadian intelligence agency informed Hardeep Singh about the threat to his life.
The lawyer added that he was more concerned about how to achieve Khalistan and how to hold a referendum than his own safety.
