Chicago: A surprising new study has been presented at the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society in America. It said that when mice were kept alone, the isolation had negative effects on their bones.

Previous studies have confirmed the disease-like effects of loneliness on mental, psychological and physical health. But social isolation can lead to weakened bones, arthritis and joint pain. Thus, the risks of bone fractures and fractures can also increase. Although these studies have been conducted on mice, we have previously seen the impact of research on mice on humans to a greater extent.

According to experts, on the one hand, during the Covid epidemic, the large population of the world felt lonely, while in America and Europe, people are also suffering from loneliness and social isolation, among which the elderly are at the top. In the report, this situation has been described as an ‘epidemic of loneliness’.

The experts placed a few mice in the laboratory in two different ways. Four rats per cage and one rat per cage were housed for one month. A month later, bone weakness, internal mineralization, and engorgement were also observed. However, surprisingly, it did not have a significant effect in females.

In their report, the experts used the word ‘dramatic effects’ that isolation can have on bones. However, more research is needed in this regard. Similarly, it needs to be tested on humans. Many studies conducted on mice have been proven to be valid on humans.
