Karachi: Residents of the area were enraged when a liquor store was opened in Sarjani town, four people including a policeman were injured due to vandalism and commotion in the liquor store.
According to the details, the residents of the area got angry when a liquor store was opened in the Christian neighborhood of Sirjani town, the angry people reached outside the liquor store where the first protesters started protesting against the liquor store.
The staff of the liquor store fired in the air at the angry people, on which the protestors became more enraged and started vandalizing the liquor store. People were injured.
The angry protesters broke the windows of 5 vehicles including the police mobile by pelting stones, the officials who came in the police mobile fled for their lives.
According to police officials, the protesters ransacked the liquor store and they also broke into the house adjacent to the store and tortured people.
A heavy police presence returned to the scene, and officers assured the protesters that the bar would no longer be open, after which the protesters dispersed peacefully.
The police officers said that the Sindh government’s excise department gives the license to open a liquor store, not the police.
According to the police, the Christian Unity Committee had submitted a complaint to the Sarjani police station on June 15 that unknown persons were demanding extortion from the liquor store, and threatening to break it and protest if it was not paid, to provide us with protection.
