New York: A recent study found that men are more likely to die from drug overdoses than women.
A study led by scientists from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and the US National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has found that drug overdoses lead to death in men. The probability is two to three times higher than in women.
Drugs include opioids and heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine. Men use the drug at a higher rate than women, the study authors said.
He said that although both men and women are exposed to fentanyl-contaminated drugs today, there is something else that is causing significantly higher death rates in men.
Study co-author Dr. Nora Volkow, director of NIDA, said that one reason may be that men use drugs more often or in larger amounts, which increases their risk of death, but another. The reason may also be that women have protective factors that lower their risk of death compared to men.
