Muhammad Saeed Sheikh was honored by Houston City Council Mayor Sylvester Turner


Muhammad Saeed Shaikh, President of the Houston and Karachi Sister City Association of the American state of Texas, was awarded the ‘Salter of the Year’ by Sister Cities International by Mayor Sylvester Turner in the Houston City Council in recognition of his three decades of outstanding community service. The Mayor’s Annual Award for Excellence in City Council for this year is a testament to Saeed Sheikh’s exemplary service, in which his services to Sister Cities activities in more than 138 countries across six continents are the only ones selected for this award. During the June 13, 2023 City Council meeting of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, Mayor Sylvester Turner paid tribute to Saeed Sheikh for his philanthropic work and community service and said that for this award he observed the activities of Saeed Sheikh for the last eight years and decided to confer this honor upon him.

He also congratulated Saeed Sheikh on behalf of the people of Houston for being selected as the Sister Cities International (SCI) ‘Volunteer of the Year’ and welcomed all the City Council members and the Consul General of Pakistan. I was honored with this award.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Turner added that this award by SCI is a great recognition of Saeed Sheikh’s outstanding work in furthering the goals and mission of the Sister Cities Movement and the principles of Citizen Diplomacy.
