The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee blocked a $735 million arms deal to Hungary after Hungary objected to Sweden joining NATO.
Senator Jim Risch said that last year Hungary promised to vote for Sweden to join NATO, but it is already June and no steps have been taken in this regard. The process is stopped.
He said that Hungary has to take necessary steps to join Sweden’s military alliance.
It should be noted that according to US law, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee review major arms deals.
Under the deal with Hungary, the US will sell it Hemar rocket launcher vehicles and 100 rockets.
It should be remembered that Sweden applied to join NATO last year, but after objections from Turkey and Hungary, Sweden’s becoming a NATO member is being delayed.
