A dispute between the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Ministry of Commerce officials over the tariff of hybrid electric vehicles has come to light in the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance.

Officials of the Ministry of Commerce say that the National Tariff Commission has not yet approved the duty on hybrid electric vehicles. The National Tariff Commission will consider the tariff on Friday.

Officials of the Ministry of Commerce said that Pakistan is bound by international agreements.

FBR officials say that the recommendations were sent by the Ministry of Industries and Production, we included them in the Finance Bill, the Federal Cabinet had decided in 2014 that the imposition of tariffs is the work of the National Tariff Commission, the regulatory duty of Pakistan Customs and Additional regulatory duties are also not sanctioned.

Officials said that any country would take this matter to the World Trade Organization and we would have to bear the shame.

Salim Mandviwala said that worldwide regulatory duties are imposed to protect goods, not to earn revenue. FBR has imposed regulatory duty on commodities.

FBR officials said that the regulatory duty was never considered in the National Tariff Commission, ready to brief the National Tariff Commission on the regulatory duty.
