Karachi: Cyclone Buparjoy may hit the land of Pakistan and India on June 15, which has also created an atmosphere of fear. But here an interesting question arises as to how cyclones are named.

Cyclones are named under the guidance of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Countries likely to be affected by seas alternately name storms.

The Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC) of the Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) under the WMO assigns names to tropical cyclones. For this, names are asked from the member states in turn.

There are about 6 specialized meteorological centers around the world and five cyclone centers for tropical cyclones. These centers already have names for storms, but they have certain conditions.

The countries named in the Atlantic Ocean and Southern Hemisphere include India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, Oman, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, all of which are from cyclones. The victims live.

Under the conditions, the name should not refer to any political figure, political ideology and politics itself. It is also a condition that they should not reveal religious beliefs, civilization and culture, nor should this word have any gender. Another condition is that the proposed name should not hurt the sentiments of any population and class of the whole world.

Then it is also important that the name of the storm should not be cruel and harsh and its English alphabet should not be more than eight. The name of the storm is also a prerequisite for being easy and colloquial.

For example, the next name after Buparjoy is ‘Teez’ which is given by India. After that, if there is a typhoon by the will of God, then for them Iran gave Hamon, Maldives Madhili, Myanmar Mechung, Oman Remal, Pakistan Asni or Atna, Qatar Dana, Saudi Arabia Fenjal, Sri Lanka Shakti, Thai Land has suggested the name Mantha, United Arab Emirates Sanyar and Yemen Datwa.

It should be noted that the name Pabar Joy or Bipur Joy was given by Bangladesh and it means destruction in Bengali language.
