Ankara: Recently, Tayyip Erdogan, who was elected for the second consecutive term, appointed a woman as the president of the central bank for the first time.
According to the international news organization, President Tayyip Erdogan has appointed the well-known economist Hafiza Ghai as the president of the country’s central bank. She is the first woman to hold this position.
Hafiza Ghai, who worked for US financial institutions and previously worked at First Republic Bank and Goldman 6, will replace her predecessor Shahab Kafjioglu as head of the Turkish State Bank.
The appointment was especially watched by experts and the draw was a woman’s name. Hafiza Ghai’s appointment order was issued with the signature of President Tayyip Erdogan.
Earlier, the Turkish president also announced the name of economist Mohammad Simsek as his new foreign minister.
These two appointments are being seen in the context of continuous interference by the State Bank on the policy of strengthening the national currency ‘lira’ in the past. The Turkish president is committed to liberal economic policies and their implementation.
